Mindful Readiness to Manage Change and Uncertainty Workshop

Change and uncertainty are facts of life. Managing skillfully and responsively in the face of them is critical to success. In this workshop we explore cognitive readiness – being ready for anything – and its importance to effective project, program, and portfolio management. Cognitive readiness is the foundation for operating effectively in complex, uncertain, changing environments while managing stress, conflict, and expectations.

To be ready for anything, we blend mindful awareness and process thinking with the skillful application of traditional technical skills, communication skills and business acumen. Participants will come away with the ability to cultivate and use core foundation capabilities—mindfulness, a process view, and emotional and social intelligence – to manage stress, change, conflict and expectations in the face of VUCA – volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity.

The workshop is offered in four one and a half hour sessions over four weeks. The format will be highly interactive with focus on exercises and dialog to anchor the content to the experience of participants. Participants will have the time between sessions to apply skills and formulate questions and issues to be addressed at the following session.

The following services will be provided by the Provider:

  • Course facilitation
  • Electronic workshop manual – annotated PPT presentation

Learning Objectives: The overall goal is to enable participants to minimize unnecessary stress and to be better able to manage conflict and expectations by cultivating cognitive readiness. Upon completing the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the principal causes of unnecessary stress and failure in projects
  • Practice formal & informal techniques to cultivate mindful awareness and manage stress
  • Apply a process-oriented view to their work and relationships
  • Apply mindful awareness and process thinking as foundation for emotional and social intelligences to better manage conflict and expectations in projects.
