Project Management Jobs in Today’s Changing “Gig” Economy

Project management jobs are changing as business needs change. Like many careers, full-time employment as a project manager is giving way to the more flexible, less predictable gig economy. Where and how do good Project Managers find employment in today’s economy?

Options for Project Management jobs generally fall into four categories: Full-time within a company; Full-time within a consulting firm; Consulting/contracting through a placement service or aggregator; Freelancing as a single contractor directly to a firm. These four types of roles offer a variety of risks and rewards, and PMs may move between every type of employment in their careers. Which type of role is best? How can you successfully navigate the transition between full-time and contractor roles? Is one type of employment role more appropriate for your skill set, experience, and life style?

Join us for a panel discussion with project managers and recruiters who will describe the work experience in each setting, as well as job search strategies across the spectrum. They will discuss trade-offs between full-time and contracting roles, including such topics as considerations for income differences, marketing and networking demands on the individual, role-specific resumes, and interview technique
