PRESENTATION TOPIC - Agile and The Next Generation of Project Management

The rapid proliferation of Agile Project Management practices will bring about a transformation that will cause us to re-think what “project management” is in much broader terms.  Some of the  difficult challenges to be overcome to make that transformation:

- Agile and traditional plan-driven project management ( loosely called “Waterfall”) are seen as binary and mutually-exclusive choices.  The  right solution may be to  fit the methodology to the nature of the project.

- Technologies tend to be  more dynamic and rapidly-changing and projects  have higher levels of uncertainty that  call for a more adaptive approach.   The convergence of these approaches raises the bar for the project management profession and will likely have a significant impact on the careers of many project managers

- Agile and traditional, plan-driven project management are still treated as separate and independent domains of knowledge with little or no integration between the two.  The individual project manager will be asked to figure out how to blend those two approaches in the right proportions to fit a given situation.

Chuck is the author of five books and numerous professional articles on Project Management and Business Excellence and has over 30 years of program and project management experience with a broad background in business analysis and software development.

He has a very pragmatic, "real world" approach to Agile  based on over 20 years of hands-on program/project management experience in a broad range of industries and application areas.  He is passionate about helping project managers understand the convergence of Agile and traditional project management principles and practices
