Storytelling is one of our most primal and creative communication art forms for passing on knowledge, wisdom to influence the development of culture and behavior. The persuasive magic of the story is embedded  in our minds from childhood across generations. Stories build trust and respect. They create understanding, connection, and drive creativity, innovation, and achievements Most of all, stories have the power to unite the vision and purpose of companies with their employees and connect to the dreams, aspirations and desires of customers.

Discover the power and importance of the art of storytelling as a compelling and convincing communication tool. Learn how we can use personal and business stories to engage consensus and support, build credibility and trust, simplify challenging ideas, showcase core values and beliefs, and inspire others to take action.

Breakthrough Consumer Experience – Revolutionizing Our Organization to Deliver Value

“There is only one boss. The customer; and he can fire everybody in the company from the chairman on down, simply by spending his money elsewhere.” … (Sam Walton founder of Walmart)

In today’s volatile market, Consumer focused experience is the single driver for long term survival. Companies such as Facebook, Amazon, Google, John Deere and Salesforce figured out the approach to sustainable product development: they revolutionized their minimal consumer experience (MVE) applying Lean Startup, Design Thinking, Agile Product Development, Continuous Delivery and DEVOPS.

The successful integration of these breakthrough concepts is at the heart of long term success whether your company is in the Software industry, Retail, Health, IT or government.

In an eye-opening presentation based on his global experience, having worked with Fortune 100 companies as United Health Group, Intel, Philips, Volvo, Citi, Michael shares the essential ingredients that will help guide you through the MVE journey.

The presentation will compell you to rethink your organization; How to move from legacy operational models (sales, operations, engineering, marketing, finance and product) to a unified cross functional task force; driving innovation, creativity and delivering value to customers!

“The average lifespan of a company listed in the S&P 500 has shrunk by more than 50 years in the last century, from 67 years in the 1920s to 15 years today”… (Yale professor Richard Foster).

Make sure you last!   Take one step to revolutionize your organization today – let Michael to inspire your journey to transformation.

  • Applying Lean Startup & Agile Development concepts to teams across the larger organization
  • Tying UX excellence and design thinking together with Agile Development teams
  • Identifying opportunities to enhance the Agile Development approach in your business

PMINYC Event: April Chapter Meeting: Creating the Process-Innovation Centered Organization

April 19, 2017
5:30 PM to 7:30 PM

SUNY Global Center
116 East 55th Street
New York, NY 10022

Process does not take place in a vacuum separate from people. People perform a process.

Topic:

Creating the Process-Innovation Centered Organization

Process does not take place in a vacuum separate from people. People perform a process, with and without the use of machinery and technology, using their brain-power, and interacting with each other in a dynamic interdependent flow that is the determinant of outcomes.

Some years back, I headed up a small operations group of fifteen people. Two years later, we cut our head count in half through consistent innovation. Then, disruption - the company brought in one of the leading “big” consulting firms to perform a reengineering of all operations. I went to the C.O.O. and begged him to allow me to run my own reengineering of my department plus the areas upon which we had dependencies, sales and research. He gave me the nod, and several months later, we had merged these three departments into one process team, a self-managed work team (SMT). We cut head count by one-third and cut throughput by two-thirds.

We were getting work done three times faster with one-third less staff, bringing in more money faster and quality was never better.

At first, other areas of the company were intimidated, but then it was, “We want what they have.” And, we went forward to re-organize entire divisions into self-managed team organizations driven by innovation.

How did this happen?
Is there a formula?
What is it?

Today, as vice president of Dottino Consulting Group, Marshall Tarley brings these lessons to organizations in a wide breadth of industries.

There are three key elements of a Process-Innovation Centered Organization:

1. Leadership must encourage, welcome, validate and reward innovation. They must model the behavior they want to see in the frontline staff. The more empowered you want a work group to be, the more sophisticated the leader must be in the disciplines of facilitative leadership and people skills.
2. Communication must be open, honest and must create shared understanding.
3. Frontline workers are set-up by this environment to be enthused and excited to innovate and implement, they now need the skill-set, the methodology to follow through.

In this interactive PMI session led by Marshall Tarley, we will explore the organizational and behavioral elements that breed process innovation.

  • - What is facilitative leadership and why it is crucial to process innovation.
  • - How your brain interacts with questions to create innovation.
  • - How your behavior as a leader determines the behavior you get from your frontline, as a natural function of the human brain.
  • - How the brain creates individualized meaning and how the team can create shared understanding.

Speaker

Marshall Tarley has led Quality Initiatives as a Director of Leadership Development, Director of Team Development, and in executive operations roles. He has led Grassroots Innovation Workshops at Con Edison, ASCAP, JP Morgan Chase, Florida Hospital and other organizations.

His work has spanned diverse business disciplines, though he is best known for leadership development, process innovation, organizational development, self-managed teams, a doctrine of leadership at every level, executive coaching, and Agile.V2, the customization of Agile to create change and harmony to fit each unique environment.

He has worked with executives to develop their leadership capabilities and cultivate new skills, often focusing on emotional intelligence, and using discoveries in neuroscience as a foundation. His executive coaching identifies strengths that leaders often overlook and pinpoints behaviors that must be modified or enhanced in order for that executive to reach the levels of achievement they are seeking.

Publications include, Journal of Innovative Management – Mind Mapping for Problem
Solving and Creativity in Teams (available at dottinoconsulting.com), Leadership
Development for Smaller Organizations – an interview with Steve Kerr, the founder of
GE’s legendary leadership program and former GE CLO.

He is currently vice president of the Dottino Consulting Group and is the co-founder and president emeritus of the USA Memory Championship. Marshall is also executive producer of Discovery Science Channel’s 2013 television show, Memory Games.
