Community Outreach - Hope and Heroes
Ijeoma Onyebuchi

On May 21 the PMINYC Community Outreach team joined the Hope and Heroes Foundation from Columbia University for the 8th Annual Hope and Heroes Walk at Pier 84 in NYC. The annual event is an opportunity where families, friends and several volunteer organizations gather to celebrate, play, walk and raise funds for research on childhood cancer.

During the event, the PMINYC team cheered, encouraged and ensured the safety of several runners and walkers while they completed a two mile course. The team also had the chance to meet and talk with family and friends that participated in the event. The PMINYC team will continue to engage with the several NYC communities and volunteer organization in serving the needs of children and their families.

Corporate Outreach - Barclays and Junior Achievement
Deepa Balakrishnan

On April 27th, PMI NYC corporate outreach team partnered with Barclays and The Junior Achievement of New York (JANY) foundation to introduce project management to high school students through an engaged participatory workshop and a mock project executed by the students. This event which has been an annual occurrence since thepast three years, has been a huge success with the students and the Barclays volunteers alike. The workshop relies on the project management framework developed by PMIEF and has been instrumental in introducing students and Barclays employees to the various certifications and knowledge resources provided by PMI towards developing and enriching a career in project management. In the coming months PMI corporate outreach team will be partnering with Barclays for similar workshops for professionals trying to re-enter the workforce. We will also be organizing expert speaker series and panel events through Fall 2017.
